Biography of Michel-Mikulas LOWENWIRTH -LOVENVIRTH
Au n°28 rue Destouvelles à Schaerbeek, une des 19 communes bruxelloise, habitait Mikulas Lovenvirth -Lowenwirth (Michaël ou Michel) un jeune résistant juif né à Berehovo (ou Berckovo) Beregszas, le 9 avril 1922 en Tchécoslovaquie, mais de minorité hongroise.
Célibataire, il exerçait le métier de tailleur à Bruxelles pour survivre. Ses parents, Martin Lovenvirth (Lowenwirth ) né le 1er janvier 1894 à Lozy et Frida Gutman épouse Lovenvirth, née le 1er septembre 1889 à Beregszas (Berehovo) résidaient au n°116 rue des Palais à Schaerbeek.
"Commandant de compagnie à l’Armée Belge des Partisans, il était responsable d’armement du Corps Mobile, et chef de détachement de la 2ème Compagnie mobile.
Il a fait preuve de solidarité dans le cadre du Front de l’Indépendance et a notamment hébergé des réfractaires. Il a été arrêté par la Gestapo le 9 février 1943 à Zaventem lors d’une action qu’il commandait contre un train de permissionnaires allemands.
Interné à Saint-Gilles et à Breendonk, il fût fusillé en tant qu'otage le 15 mars 1943 sur ordre du Gouverneur militaire, suivant la décision du 8 mars 1943 rédigée en ces termes
: « Fusillade de 10 terroristes à titre de mesures d’expiation pour, premièrement, l’assassinat du légionnaire sous-officier wallon Boisbourdin le 27 février 1943 à Bruxelles ; deuxièmement : du nommé flamand Jan Acke, membre des SS et de De Vlag le 4 mars 43 à Bruxelles ; troisièmement: les attentats perpétrés à Bruxelles entre le 11 février et le 12 mars 1943 contre des citoyens loyaux ».
Il a en fait été exécuté parce qu’il était membre d’un groupe terroriste communiste à Bruxelles, parce qu’il a organisé des services de courriers et remis aux membres des armes et du matériel destiné à commettre des attentats (lui-même ayant provoqué de petits incendies au moyen de mèches incendiaires). Il a également œuvré comme distributeur de l’organe clandestin « Szabadzag » (Liberté en hongrois ) dès sa parution en janvier 1941.

At 28 rue Destouvelles in Schaerbeek lived Mikulas Lovenvirth (Michaël or Michel) a young resistant born in Berechovo (or Berckovo) on April 9, 1922 (in Czechoslovakia, but of Hungarian origin). Single, he worked as a tailor. His parents, Martin Lovenvirth, born January 1, 1894 in Lozy and Frida Gutman married Lovenvirth, born September 1, 1889 in Berchovo, (Beregszas) resided at 116 rue des Palais in Schaerbeek.
Company commander in the Belgian Army of Partisans, he was in charge of arming the Mobile Corps, and detachment leader of the 2nd Mobile Company.
He has shown solidarity in the context of the Independence Front and has notably housed refractories. He was arrested by the Gestapo on February 9, 1943 in Zaventem in an action he commanded against a train of German permissaries.
Interned in Saint-Gilles and Breendonk, he was shot as a hostage on March 15, 1943 on the orders of the Military Governor, following the decision of March 8, 1943 written in these terms: "shooting of 10 terrorists as measures of expiation for, firstly, the assassination of the Walloon non-commissioned officer Boisbourdin on February 27, 1943 in Brussels; secondly: of the Flemish named Jan Acke, member of the SS and of De Vlag on March 4, 43 in Brussels; third: the attacks perpetrated in Brussels between February 11 and March 12, 1943 against loyal citizens ”.
He was in fact executed because he was a member of a communist terrorist group in Brussels, because he organized courier services and handed over to the members arms and equipment intended to carry out attacks (himself having caused small fires using incendiary wicks). He also worked as a distributor for the underground organ "Szabadzag" (Freedom in Hungarian) since its publication in January 1941.
